The building is fully wheelchair accessible and houses the reception area, toilets, Jarrow cafe, Footprints in Coal exhibition and a wide range of other exhibitions throughout the year. The centre is the meeting and registration point for all the activities at the park.

Fishing

The grounds of Castlecomer Discovery Park are centred on two rainbow trout fishing lakes. Originally constructed by the Prior Wandesforde family, the two man-made lakes formed a centre piece for the demesne. The lakes are now fully re-instated with angling stands to allow full access to the water and a series of cascades link the lakes and channel the water back into the River Deen.

The lower lake is reserved for fly or bait fishing. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout which are approximately 1kg in weight. All fish feed naturally after being introduced to the waters. They are never artificially fed, but grow well from the abundance of natural feed from the insect and fly life in the environs.

There is a fee of €15 for four hours angling. In general, Castlecomer Discovery Park strongly support a catch and release policy. On a 4 hour permit, an angler can keep TWO fish up to 3lbs in weight. All adult fish are on a catch and release basis only. Once the bag limit has been taken, the angler can continue to fish on a catch and release basis for the remainder of the time allocated.

Bait can be purchased on site and rod hire is also available at a charge of €5 per rod with a €15 refundable deposit.
