days out in Cork

Days out in Cork offers so much to families and visitors. During Summer 2014, DayOut.ie spent a week reviewing Cork venues and attractions. From well known spots like the scenic fishing village of Kinsale, to the beautiful town of Cobh and then Cork city itself, Cork county has a very warm welcome and some fantastic attractions and group days out.

Cork is situated in the South West of Ireland in the province of Munster and is a hub for business, retail and leisure. The largest county in the Republic of Ireland by land mass, Cork has the second highest population after Dublin.

days out in cork blarney castle Blarney Castle and Kissing the Blarney stone are world famous. Ranked #9 in Ireland’s Top 10 paid attractions, no visit to the Blarney area is complete without climbing the castle ramparts to lie down and lean backwards, over a daunting opening, to impart the ‘Gift of Eloquence’ on oneself! Beautiful grounds and gardens with splendid walks make this a really super day out for all.
days out in cork - cork city gaol Cork City Gaol is a fascinating insight into the workings of this once fully populated gaol. The interior has been extensively renovated to offer tours of cells, offices and living spaces. The audio headphones are well worth the extra couple of euro and the gift shop will provide some really nice mementos of your visit. Really enjoyed this, the exterior compound is eerily impressive!
days out in cork - fota wildlife Fota Wildlife Park is ranked 8 in the Top 10 Irish paid attractions and is hugely popular for days out in Cork. Major work was carried out during 2014 to create a new tiger habitat. Fota is on the scale of Dublin Zoo, with large outdoor spaces, park train ride, play areas and numerous animal enclosures. Something for everyone and a full day out!.
days-out-in-cork---kinsale-outdoor-education-centre Kinsale Outdoor Education Centre provides the perfect operating location for water, rock, surf & river adventures. Catering for all ages and abilities Kinsale OEC also provides many certified courses in 1st aid, kayaking and sailing. Adult courses include Power boating, Yacht master and more. A super location for schools, clubs and group days out in Cork.
days out in cork - leisureplex cork Leisureplex is a great choice when looking for indoor activities for those grumpy teenagers!. A large activity centre with lots to keep the kids (and grown ups!) entertained. Located on MacCurtain Street, it’s a great location for kids birthday parties, Quasar for the older kids and even date nights teenagers. Ideal also as venue for some corporate fun nights out with bowling lanes.
days out in cork - lifetime lab Lifetime lab is situated on the banks of the River Lee, very close to Fitzgerald Park  Cork city centre. It’s a visitor centre experience aimed at kids with interactive puzzles and education theme. On the site of the old Cork city water works, it also features a steam museum plant and a small playground on the same site. It’s about 20-30 minute walking distance (with buggies) to Cork City Gaol so it’s ideal to take in these two together.
days out in cork - monkey maze Monkey Maze is billed as Europe’s largest indoor activity centre and it’s impressive! Located in Glanmire, as play centres go this is probably the best we’ve seen. Large seating areas for adults, packed 4 storeys high with (yes 4!!) bright colours, slides, twists and turns. Toilets very clean and overall the centre is immaculate. (Well worth a visit, it was hard for daddy not to have a go!!)
days out in cork - skicork SkiCork.ie at the Glen Centre Cork is Ireland’s only Skiing and adventure centre located just off the North Ring Road in Cork city.  Artificial ski slope suitable for all levels makes this a super day out choice for families and groups. Fully supervised by qualified ski and snow board instructors. Also offers Zorbing, 5-A-Side pitches and roped obstacle course adventure activities.
days out in cork - titanic experience Titanic Experience Cobh is a small museum dedicated to the history of the famous ocean liner. Cobh was the last place the Titanic was seen on its fateful voyage, picking up its last Irish passengers here before setting sail across the Atlantic. Interesting exhibition, poignant and thought invoking as you walk through the very same doorway that people used when starting their own journey!
days out in cork - zipit farran park cork Zipit Farran Park Cork is a super day out experience for groups, clubs and families. An obstacle course in the tree tops – you are always connected to the course wires via the robust harness system. Great team help you get kitted out and show you what to do. DayOut did the course in Roscommon and it’s great craic! Ideal for stag and hen parties – it’s a launch a minute and highly recommended!
