days out in Sligo

Days out in Sligo include visits to many historical sites like Sligo Abbey, Lisadell House and the Yeats Memorial Building. Sligo shares a rich association with William Butler Yeats – a darling of Irish poetry and storytelling and winner of the 1923 Nobel prize for Literature.

On the North West Atlantic coast of Ireland, Sligo is surrounded with a rugged mountainous landscape. It borders Northern Ireland and has stunning natural scenery on its West coast which forms part of the 2500km driving route of the Wild Atlantic Way. Like many places along the West coast of Ireland, several Sligo towns like Strandhill and others are popular with the surfing community. A diverse coast line of beaches and rugged landscapes, coupled with Atlantic swells make this a beautiful, at times challenging but always memorable surfing environment.
