With a traditional music that flows from banjos\, guitar\, accordion\, keyboard and percussion\, their sound is shaped by Ireland’s untamed West Coast. This trad music mixes with other musical influences from folk\, rock and new age bluegrass\, giving the band a truly distinctive sound. \nMOXIE come to The Ark hot on the heels of their performances as the band in Prodijig\, The Revolution at The Cork Opera House which received rave reviews and 3 weeks of sold out shows. In August 2014 they released their debut album Planted to critical acclaim. \nMOXIE are: Cillian Doheny (tenor banjo/guitar)\, Jos Kelly (button accordion/keyboard)\, Darren Roche (button accordion)\, Ted Kelly (tenor banjo) and Paddy Hazelton (percussion).

SUMMARY:Children's Open Trad Session 2017 - The Ark
DESCRIPTION:If you’re aged 6+ and play an instrument\, this is your chance to come and play in a real trad session! \nDrop in to our open trad seisiún\, especially for children\, led by members of Ceoltóirí Chluain Tarbh\, a long established and highly active Irish music organisation. Children who can play a tune on the fiddle\, bodhrán\, harp\, concertina\, or any instrument at all (including non-traditional instruments) are welcome to come along and find out what it is like to play in a trad session with other young musicians.  \nRecommended for children who have been learning music for one year or more. Children wishing to participate must bring their own instruments. Families are invited to come\, listen and enjoy!

They explore the forests\, foraging for natural materials to make beautiful crafts. This year the Tradfest Crafts club follows in their footsteps and looks to the woods for inspiration. SUMMARY:Family Workshop : Jim Jam Jugband - The Ark
DESCRIPTION:Learn to use a range of fun household objects to create music as you form your own family folk band for an afternoon! \nA jug band is a type of traditional folk band from America where at least one member of the band plays music using a jug! On this side of the world they are sometimes called Skiffle bands. Other instruments in a jug band are often made from objects you might recognise from around the house too including: a suitcase bass drum\, spoons\, washboards played with thimbles\, a washtub bass and pizza box percussion. \nJoin us for what promises to be a really fun family workshop and enjoy the chance to play these enjoyable and easy instruments together as a family! As well as all the household objects there’ll also be other instruments such as ukulele\, kazoos and harmonica as well as lots of singing for all. At the end of the workshop the whole workshop group will perform together for friends or other family members to enjoy. \nSuitable for all levels of music experience including beginners.

DESCRIPTION:An intimate traditional music performance specifically designed for young children (aged 3-6) and their families. \nThe creatures of Whistleberry Forest have discovered a little oak tree growing deep in the woods.  However\, there are no birds singing\, no leaves rustling\, and no animals scurrying around its trunk.  This delightful music performance takes children and accompanying adults on an adventure through the forest where you will explore musical instruments\, sing\, dance\, and help Ornaith the owl\, Sorley the snail\, and Faolán the frog bring the little oak tree to life through music.
