SUMMARY:State Lights
DESCRIPTION:The Workman’s Club\, Dublin \n24 September 2016. \n \nFollowing their epic sold-out show in Whelans in March\, the hotly tipped State Lights have announced their biggest headline show to date at The Workman’s Club\, Dublin this September. \n \n‘Love Is In Your Eyes’ \n \nSinger Shobsy\, guitarist Joe Regan drummer Paul Ridgeway and bassist Noel Perry all met at BIMM Music College in Dublin. The atmosphere at BIMM encourages collaborations and musical friendships to blossom. Bonding over a shared interest in classic 80’s music and a common desire to write big stadium sized songs the guys decided to work on a music project. This early incarnation lead to the formation of State Lights in 2014. \n \nProgress was immediate and the band quickly decamped to Granard Co Longford to record their first songs in Joe Regan’s home studio. The first result of these sessions was the ‘Breakout‘ EP which articulates tales of young love\, rejection and hope underpinned by a classic vocal style wrapped around a big atmospheric sound. ‘Breakout‘ quickly gained traction at radio with the band being selected as ‘Artist of the week’ on Today FM (Colm O’ Sullivan Show). The band received their first UK radio play in March 2015 when they were selected to appear as ‘Shock of the New’ on the influential Jo Good show on XFM while their first US play arrived shortly after through KROQ 106.7 (Los Angeles). \n \nIn March 2016 State Lights released its second ep\, ‘The Disguise’\, which entered at No 2 on the Irish ITunes Album charts. The following week the band performed to a sold out Whelan’s show. The gig had sold out some six weeks in advance. On TV an invitation accepted for April 9 and a storming performance on the Ray Darcy TV show ensued. The lead track from the EP ‘Love is in your eyes’ has achieved considerable Airplay nationwide and the band is currently the ‘The UTV Irish Artist of the month’ which includes stations such as FM 104\, Limerick’s Live 95 and Cork’s 96FM\, on the Today FM play list\, the Irish section of the RTE 2FM play list together with enjoying support for the last number of months from a wide range of Irish focused shows across the country including Roddie Cleere’s IMS on KCLR 96FM\, Rob O’Connor’s Irish Beats on Beat 102 103\, John Barker at 98FM and others. \n \nOver the past year State Lights has developed into one of the country’s best new Live bands. The band appeared at both Indiependence & Castlepalooza Festivals\, in addition to appearances at the First Fortnight festival for the past two years and a headlining spot at the BT Young Scientist Expo where they performed before 4000 students at Dublin’s RDS Arena earlier this year. \n \n“State Lights – Dublin band whose EP is full of bracing\, assured rock/pop tunes and who already have a sound which is aiming for stadiums and arenas. Frontman Shobsy’s voice is one of their key assets\, but the musicianship underpinning the songs is also pretty striking at this early stage. The sound of a potentially very large crowd” – Jim Carroll\, The Irish Times \n \n“You get the feeling that this is the start of something big“ – buzz.ie \n \n“Amazing to say the least. Their music is spine-chilling.. I’m not kidding” – Keith & Fiona\, Open Mic\, FM104 \n \n \n \nThe Disguise’ EP on iTunes \n \nTickets priced €10 go on sale this Friday 13 May at 9am through & usual outlets nationwide. \n

SUMMARY:BEN MILLER BAND Dublin
DESCRIPTION:Aiken Promotions present \nBEN MILLER BAND \n \nThe Workman’s Club\, Dublin \nFriday 23 September 2016. \nThe Ben Miller Band’s frenetic\, one-of-a-kind jaw-dropping live show has astounded audiences across North America and Europe and today they have announced their return to The Workman’s Club\, Dublin this September. \n \nThe Ben Miller Band revamped their line-up\, expanding to a foursome following the departure of founding member Doug Dicharry. Multi-instrumentalists Smilin’ Bob Lewis and Rachel Ammons have officially joined the band where they bring an arsenal of instruments to the fold including fiddle\, slide guitar\, dobro\, dulcimer\, keyboards\, mandolin\, banjo\, bass and harmonica and in Ammon’s case\, an electric cactus\, and inject the band with a whole new\, exciting dynamic. ”When we thought of what the future might bring and how to fill the shoes left by Doug’s departure\, my very first thought was of one of my favorite bands in the world\, Tyrannosaurus Chicken\,” says Ben Miller. “Smilin’ Bob and Rachel are two of the most gifted musicians I have ever met and\, in my opinion\, they make some of the most original and authentic American music being made today. Over the years\, we have shared stages many times with them and jammed together every chance we had. There was always a strange and wonderful alchemy that came from our two groups mixing\, it felt effortless and right. So\, we called them with our idea of joining forces. After some careful deliberation we all came to the conclusion that the potential was so far off the charts that if we didn’t do it we’d probably always wonder what might have been. This is a very big step forward for all involved and we wouldn’t be doing it if we didn’t fully believe that what we have put together is a very\, very special band. So\, here’s to the future\, 2016 is gonna be a big one.” \n \nThe Ben Miller Band has not stopped touring since the August 2014 release of their acclaimed sophomore album\, Any Way\, Shape Or Form. In addition to a slew of festivals they became ZZ Top’s go-to opening act and have opened for the blues rock giants all across the U.S. and Europe. Produced by Vance Powell (Jack White\, Wanda Jackson\, Kings of Leon)\, Any Way\, Shape Or Form\, is an exhilarating listen that’s garnered the band considerable praise and has raised the their profile from grassroots DIY group to internationally touring sensation. \n \nTickets priced €13 go on sale this Friday 29th April at 9am through & usual outlets nationwide.

SUMMARY:White Denim
DESCRIPTION:Live at Whelans\, Tuesday 16th August \nTickets will go on sale this Friday 13th May at 9am \n€18.50 inclusive of booking fee charges \n \nThree years on from their critically acclaimed “barbeque” record Corsicana Lemonade\, White Denim are back with more than just a new album to commemorate. Their sixth record\, Stiff – out now. This is the return to the Austin quartet’s frenetic rock band roots\, and is both a jubilant thrill ride and joyous celebration of their past ten years. They return to Whelans\, Dublin on August 16th. \n \nFor the most part\, Stiff is an album crammed with adrenaline-fuelled sing-alongs that show off the band’s staple technical abilities. But it’s also one that sees some new shades that they’ve developed along the way\, too. Citing new wave and the razor-sharp pop punk of Buzzcocks as influences this time round\, there’s an addictive Elvis Costello circa This Year’s Model quality to ‘Real Deal Momma’\, a tune that highlights the band’s love for hummable synthesisers and curious\, affecting oddities. Then there’s the cow bell calm and backing vocals laden brilliance of ‘I’m The One (Big Big Fun)’\, that along with ‘Take It Easy (Ever After Lasting Love)’ (a song Petralli says “wants to be on a collection of doo wop songs written in 2016”) shows a softer and more intricate side to the band while fully emphasising Petralli’s vocal excellence. \n \nUltimately\, Stiff is the sound of a band finding their feet again and having the time of their lives. It’s a record that refuses to buckle under the pressures of life\, instead offering up a soundtrack to sing\, dance\, shout and scream along to. As a White Denim album\, it’s a joyride through the past ten years of the band’s idiosyncratic catalogue while simultaneously pushing things further forward into new territories. “It’s similar to our first record [Workout Holiday] in that we found the initial energy and just went with that\,” Petralli says of the initial studio spark that started it all. “We thought\, what’s the fundamental thing that made us want to get into a van and quit our terrible jobs and start this whole thing in the first place? And it was loud\, fast-playing\, rock and roll.” \nLinks: \nFacebook: \nJoin event: \nTwitter handle: @whitedenimmusic

SUMMARY:Leo Stannard
DESCRIPTION:Black Butter artist Leo Stannard will play a headline show upstairs in Whelans on Saturday 9th of July as part of an Irish Summer tour. \nLeicester’s Leo Stannard ended 2015 with support from Radio X and Lauren Laverne (BBC 6music) plus two sold out UK headline shows and a European tour supporting platinum selling dance-act Rudimental. He has gathered over 700\,000 monthly Spotify listeners\, with the acoustic version of ‘Lost’ receiving over 500\,000 plays. \nLeo released his new single ‘Lost’ earlier this year from his Free Rein EP. Written by Leo and mixed by Grammy Award winning Anthony Kilhoffer (Kanye West\, Rihanna\, The Roots)\, ‘Lost’ showcases Leo’s unique performance style and is a taste of what’s to come in 2016. \nOpening with Leo’s percussive playing technique and building into an anthemic chorus\, his distinct vocals soar over the infectious\, rhythmic base of the track. The track is a personal one for Leo\, as he describes; \n“Lost came about after I confronted one of my closest friends about their lack of direction in life. It was a time when we’re all making decisions about university\, work and what to do next – and this friend of mine had so much to offer but was far too easily influenced by others which was heartbreaking to see” \nTickets for Leo Stannard upstairs at Whelans on sale tomorrow Wednesday 11th May from Ticketmaster.ie \nLEO STANNARD IRISH DATES: \nJuly 6: CLONAKILTY // DeBarra’s \nJuly 7: LIMERICK // Dolan’s (upstairs) \nJuly 8: GALWAY // The Loft \nJuly 9: DUBLIN // Whelan’s (upstairs)

SUMMARY:Funeral Suits
DESCRIPTION:Live at \n \nWhelan’s\, Friday July 8th 2016 \n \nTickets €14.00 including booking fee on sale now from Ticketmaster \n \nDoors 8pm|Over 18s- ID Required \n \n \nIrish alternative-rock band Funeral Suits break their silence with the release of a brand new track – “Tree Of Life” – their first new music since the release of their debut album “Lily Of The Valley” almost four years ago. \n \nFormed in Dublin in 2008\, Funeral Suits (the name is inspired by a love of the first Arcade Fire album) released a clutch of handmade singles before they came into contact with legendary Britpop producer Stephen Street\, best known for his work with The Smiths and Blur. They worked together over a couple of years\, bagging studio time when the band could afford it\, on the songs that would form the basis of their debut album. A single from these sessions – “Color Fade” – emerged in 2011. \n \nAround this time\, Funeral Suits came to the attention of Dublin based independent label Rubyworks; and the debut album “Lily Of The Valley” (a discreet nod to ‘Breaking Bad’) came out in summer 2012. The band developed a relationship with cutting edge Irish videographers\, Shaun Ryan in particular. The trilogy of clips they did together\, loosely based on “The Lord Of The Flies”\, started to cement Funeral Suits reputation online\, as their videos – strange emissaries of nightmarish dread – seeped into the consciousness of millions of music fans from Mexico to Milan to Minneapolis. These sly cinematic increments\, led by the terrifying “All Those Friendly People”\, enabled the band to tour Europe and the US\, before they reconvened to start writing again\, in the UK\, Ireland and Sweden; at the end of 2014\, which coincided with Nat Walker of Chromatics delivering an epic remix of “ATFP”. \n \nFuneral Suits spent much of summer 2015 in Germany\, in a studio overlooking the Mauerpark in Berlin. The band worked with producer Jochen Schmalbach – best known for his work with Rammstein and Klangkarussell – on the songs for the forthcoming album. The father-and-son team of Ken and Jolyon Thomas has done additional production and mix work; Ken is best known for his work with Sigur Ros and M83\, while Jolyon has recently enjoyed success with Slaves. \n \nThe first progeny of their collective labours is “Tree Of Life”\, emerging blinking into the spring sunlight as the lead track from a new Funeral Suits EP which will be released later in the summer. A video for “Tree Of Life” – directed by long-time cohort and kindred spirit Shaun Ryan – is currently in production. \n \nFuneral Suits are: \n \nBrian James – vocals\, keyboards\, guitar\, bass \nMik McKeogh – vocals\, guitar\, keyboards\, bass \nDarragh Grant – bass\, guitar \nGreg McCarthy – drums \n \n“Tree Of Life” will be released on Rubyworks on all streaming and download platforms on Friday 1st April. \n \n

Tickets are available now from ticketmaster.ie and outlets nationwide. \nTheir back catalogue “3 Feet and Rising” reached Number 1 in the Rap/ Hip Hop Billboard charts and Number 24 in the top 200 home of the hits “Me Myself and I” and “The Magic Number”. \nFast forward to 2016\, “I don’t want to sit here and say it’s another 3 Feet High and Rising\, I would never say that\,” says De La Soul’s Kelvin “Posdnous” Mercer about his group’s upcoming eighth album\, their first in 12 years. \nDe La Soul has most definitely turned hip-hop upside down and making a highly anticipated return to live shows. \nDublin boys Hare Squead have found a way to channel an eclectic love affair with music into an infectious and dominating pop sound\, along with an explosive live show. \nMusicians from a young age\, Henoc\, Tony\, and Jessy came together through a love of skating\, song-writing\, flexing\, and bonhomie. Having just signed to Columbia Records UK and with an exciting summer single\, “If I Ask”\, on the way\, 2016 is about to turn Hare Squead. \n \n \nLinks: \nWebsite: \nFacebook: \nTwitter handle: @WeAreDeLaSoul \n \nTwitter handle: \n
