SUMMARY:Tommy Fleming in Concert
DESCRIPTION:For almost 30 years\, Tommy Fleming has been honing his craft and entertaining the masses with his extraordinary talent. His worldwide success has made him a household name in many homes across the globe and his fanbase is growing year on year. It’s not hard to see why; music is a universal language and one Tommy is undoubtedly fluent in. \nThe one comment that is repeated from Dublin to Darwin and beyond\, is the incredible effect Tommy’s voice has as he turns each song into his own with his unique and powerful style – touching emotions in you that only music can reach. While Tommy’s music may be difficult to classify\, fans use such words as “deeply emotional\, romantic and sincere” to describe the feelings it evokes. One reviewer described his music as falling into a genre of Symphonic Pop that still awaits a name. A Tommy Fleming concert is a musical experience not to be missed that has a universal appeal to all ages and backgrounds. \nTommy is famous for his own arrangement of “Danny Boy”\, “Isle of Inisfree” and“Hard Times” – all songs that you know and love but have never heard until you hear Tommy Fleming’s versions. He also covers songs from “You Raise Me Up”\, “Bridge over Troubled Waters”\, “From a Distance” and “Something Inside so Strong”along with many more contemporary numbers. \nSuch is his success\, he has also toured with the great Elaine Paige and Kenny Rogers in recent years and recorded duets with Vince Gill\, Christy Hennessy\, Phil Coulter\, Lucie Silvas\, Cara Dillon\, Eleanor Shanley\, De Dannan and Mark Vincent to name but a few.

SUMMARY:Jamie Cullum
DESCRIPTION:After recently announcing the release of his new album\, ‘Taller’\, critically acclaimed musician and songwriter Jamie Cullum today announces he will be taking to the stage for a 2020 tour. Beginning in Dublin\, the 12-date tour will see Jamie perform live at venues across the UK & Ireland\, including a night at the iconic London Palladium. His dynamic live performances have always captured the attention of the audience through Jamie’s undeniable energy\, boundless talent and stage presence. \nJamie says – ’It’s going to be so fun playing this new music out on tour with my incredible band. We’re going to draw on these new songs and reinvent plenty of old ones too. The Taller 2020 tour is going to be a memorable one!” \nThe new album ‘Taller’ sees Jamie bravely explore more personal subject matter with a fresh sense of authenticity\, each song reflecting a desire to grow and learn and explore life for the beautiful muddle it is. \nTitle track ‘Taller’ lyrically shows an emotional honesty which is explored throughout the album. Of title track ‘Taller’\, Jamie says\, “Historically there has been jokes about my physical stature and being married to a taller woman – so I wanted to own it. Using this as a jumping off point it became a song about the need to grow within your relationship and meet each other eye to eye\, allowing room for both darkness and light.” \nOther tracks on the album have prominent funk\, pop and gospel influences such as ‘Usher’\, ‘Drink’ and the powerful ‘Mankind\,’ whose lyrics are a soulful collective call for an alienated society. What’s obvious throughout the album is that Jamie is not seeking approval\, but writing music which feels true to him\, letting his feelings dictate the creative process. \nJamie says\, ‘’This album is really a love letter to my wife. It’s an album of my songs that takes stock of where I am right now. They were my working notes for life. My ‘Fortysomething’ if you will. I wanted to put aside whether it was a jazz record\, whether it was ticking this or that box. The songs would be king and they would be honest. I feel more proud of this than anything I’ve done’’ \nWith 10 million album sales to date and his successful BBC Radio 2 Radio show\, Jamie Cullum is a celebrated musician the world over with loyal fans in every corner of the globe. With a career spanning over 20 years\, his legendary live shows have seen him perform and work alongside artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock \, Pharrell Williams\, Kendrick Lamar and Lang Lang\, whilst the success of his major label breakthrough\, ‘Twentysomething’ and its follow up ‘Catching Tales’ saw him nominated for a BRIT\, Grammy and numerous other awards around the world.\nIn addition to his enduringly successful recording career\, he has also established himself as a multi-award winning music broadcaster. He approaches all aspects of his career\, as he has from the beginning\, as both a fan and a student with seemingly boundless creativity and enthusiasm.

SUMMARY:Chris de Burgh and Band
DESCRIPTION:Chris de Burgh will perform two of his most outstanding recordings\, and some other favourites\, on his Classic Albums Tour which comes to Bord Gais Energy Theatre on 13 October 2019. \n“One is my most successful album in terms of sales\, and the other is one I particularly enjoyed the writing and recording of\, Chris explains. \nThe first is his 1986 release\, ‘Into The Light’\, which Chris had shrewdly envisaged could be the record that might place him fully centre stage as an international artist – and so it proved\, thanks to one song in particular: ‘The Lady In Red’. It was the composition which finally established him as a known singer-songwriter around the world and has since become an undeniable evergreen classic. \nIt achieved No. 1 status in 47 countries\, including the UK\, reached No.2 in America and has now sold in excess of 8 million copies. To this day\, it remains one of the most played songs on the planet; in America alone\, it has been the recipient of six annual ASCAP (Association of Composers and Publishers) Awards\, presented to acknowledge it as among the Top 20 most played records in the United States in a period of 12 months. \nThe second album is ‘Moonfleet & Other Stories’\, from 2010\, which took Chris on the most ambitious\, demanding and evocative journey of his long career which\, by then\, had resulted in albums sales approaching 50 million worldwide. \n“I gave myself the biggest challenge in writing and recording that album\,” Chris estimates. “It was very difficult but\, ultimately\, great\, great fun to have done that.” \nIt’s entirely appropriate to call ‘Moonfleet & Others Stories’ a tour de force\, not merely since it comprises 20 original elements (including the writing of an orchestral overture by Chris)\, but because it’s a fully-rounded and realised musical suite based on the book\, by English novelist J. Meade Falkner\, from which the album takes its name. \nBetween them\, ‘Into The Light’ and ‘Moonfleet & Others Stories’ encompass 36 tracks and a combined running time of 122 minutes of music\, which Chris will perform in concert with full band. “As always\, the aim is to connect – and also\, now\, to re-connect – with my audience and take it on a musical journey\,” says Chris.

SUMMARY:Suede Bord Gáis Energy Theatre
DESCRIPTION:One of the most ground breaking bands of the 90’s\, Suede return to Dublin this October off the back of their 8th studio album ‘The Blue Hour’ \nSuede’s career is of two chapters. Dubbed as “the best new band in Britain” in 1992 & appearing on ‘Melody Makers’ front cover before even releasing their debut\, the band continued on an upward trajectory with the critically acclaimed ‘Dog Man Star’ & the post Bernard Butler ‘Coming up’ before a self-imposed 10 year hiatus in 2003. \nReturning with ‘Bloodsports’ (2013) and the far darker ‘Night Thoughts’ (2016) the band have again twice shown their astonishing abilities at bringing sadness & darkness to light through tales of outsider romance\, alienation & urban decay from the musings of lead singer Brett Anderson \nTheir new offering\, ‘The Blue Hour’ sees the band hint at a narrative that’s never quite explained and their visit to Bord Gais Energy on Sunday 14th of October marks a departure from their usual Olympia haunt and sees the band explore a new side to Dublin’s live offering.

SUMMARY:Andy Irvine and Paul Brady Bord Gáis Energy Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Following 2017’s sold out tour of their 1977 eponymous folk classic\, Andy Irvine & Paul Brady\, accompanied by Dónal Lunny & Kevin Burke come to Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for one night only. \n1975 – forerunners of Ireland’s dynamic trad-folk movement of the early 70s Planxty has imploded. Paul Brady had joined the band to replace the departing Christy Moore. It was to be an exciting twist for Ireland’s most exciting band – a new powerful voice to bolster the ensemble’s incredible momentum. But sadly Brady never got to record with Planxty. Fatigue and financial difficulties brought the band to a standstill. \n“It was a great relief\,” admits Andy Irvine. “We adjourned to Madigan’s pub in Donnybrook. We drank to the demise of Planxty\, looked at each other and said\, ‘’So what do we do now? Since Paul and myself had struck up a particular friendship we decided to stick together and become a duo.” \nTogether Andy Irvine and Paul Brady made an eponymously-titled album\, released in 1977 on the thriving Mulligan Records label. Today\, nearly 40 years later\, it stands as one of the most vital documents\, not just of Irish music\, but international folk music of any era. It is as close as perfection gets\, a moment in time\, beautifully captured\, framed with a timelessness that still bewitches new listeners today. It is basically two of the greatest interpreters of the Irish folk song\, side by side\, relishing in this magical musical chemistry. They were accompanied by the great fiddler Kevin Burke and Dónal Lunny of Planxty and The Bothy Band\, who also produced the album recorded in Wales. \n“Paul and myself\, with Dónal and Kevin Burke\, made our only album in Rockfield Studios in August 1976. I think I can speak for both Paul and myself\, when I say that we are very proud of this album. It takes a long time to be at a distance from something you recorded and listen to it dispassionately. When I hear that album\, I can say it’s good without fear of being thought of as conceited. I now hear it objectively\, almost as if it was someone else. That was a great time and I look back at those days as being among my best musical experiences. Nobody who was at those Festivals\, like say\, on Sherkin Island in ’76 and ’77 will ever forget them.” \nThe album contained some of the songs and tunes which inevitably would have been recorded for the next Planxty album had they not disbanded. It opens with the fiery Plains of Kildare\, fuelled on a galloping Bulgarian rachenitsa rhythm. Elsewhere they draw songs from the Sam Henry collection\, Brady sings the beautiful Lough Erne Shore\, learned from Paddy Tunney (son of the great Brigid Tunney)\, as well as reels\, jigs and a hornpipe. Irvine contributes his self-penned Autumn Gold\, a poignant recollection of his times spent in Eastern Europe in the late 60s. \nPaul Brady’s version of Arthur McBride sits as a sort of centre-piece to the album\, a monumental seven-minute folk ballad that can bring a room of any size to a standstill whenever it is performed. Even Andy Irvine\, who had sung his own version of the song on Planxty’s seminal debut album had to hold his hands up! “I always remember the first time I heard it in a Donegal pub. I was blown away as everybody has been since!” \nThe duo\, accompanied by the musicians who helped them make the record back in 1976\, will unite once again to bring this timeless magic to the folk connoisseurs of Ireland\, young and old.

SUMMARY:Imelda May
DESCRIPTION:For three performances only\nImelda May will play two dates in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre Dublin on 29th and 30th May 2017. Tickets go on sale Friday 9th December at 10am. \nLast month Imelda released ‘Call Me’\, the first single\, and opening track\, from Imelda’s new album ‘Life\, Love\, Flesh\, Blood’ due for release 31st March 2017. \nTaking the biggest band line up she has ever toured\, the shows promise to delight both old and new fans of Imelda’s music. Featuring members of her longtime band with some additional incredible musicians\, the new line up brings the wonderful new material and old favourites to full colour whilst also showcasing Imelda’s unique ability to evoke the purest of emotion using her voice as her sole instrument. \nIf you don’t know Imelda May\, prepare to be amazed. If you are already a fan\, get ready to hear her as you never have before. The truly unique artist has found a new groove\, exploring blues\, soul\, gospel\, folk\, rock\, sensitive acoustica\, cinematic drama and explosive balladry on a set of the boldest\, most personal and intimately autobiographical songs she has ever written. \nLong celebrated by peers as one of the most sensational singers of contemporary music\, Imelda May has made the album of her life. Produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett\, the album was recorded in LA and features some of the most well renowned musicians in America (the same as on T Bone’s Alison Krauss and Robert Plant’s celebrated ‘Raising Sand’ album) with guest appearances by long time supporters; guitar hero Jeff Beck & piano maestro Jools Holland. \nT Bone comments “I’ve never met anyone quite like Imelda May. She is full of life. When I first happened onto her music\, she was a punky Irish Rockabilly singer with a great band. I was intrigued by her deep feeling for and understanding of that American art form\, much of which\, of course\, had originated in Ireland. When I ran across her several years later\, she had gone through a change of lives and was writing about it with a wild intensity and singing about it in the most open hearted way. I was inspired by her honesty and her generosity\, and I continue to be intrigued.” \nImelda’s life changed considerably in the run up to recording\, and first single ‘Call Me’ is one chapter that needed to be covered. In the past she would sometimes “hide things in my songs and twist them around.” but this time the singer tells it exactly how it is. \nImelda May doesn’t just sound different\, she actually looks physically different. “I always loved the Fifties rockabilly style but there was a point where I felt I was almost dressing up as Imelda May. It was as if I was getting into character for a gig. And I didn’t want to do that anymore. This is me. I’m so proud of this album and can’t wait to bring it out on the road to you”

SUMMARY:The Beach Boys
DESCRIPTION:The Beach Boys | Bord Gáis Energy Theatre\nYou can capsulise most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold\, but these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys who have birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. \nHappily for us all\, The Beach Boys continue to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut over 50 years ago. The Beach Boys found through their music the key to unfading youth and they made copies for everyone. To these guys\, the beach isn’t just a place where the surf comes to play; it’s where life is renewed and made whole again. \nCaptained by Mike Love\, The Beach Boys play an astoundingly busy schedule of concerts\, averaging 150 shows a year\, ranging from sun-drenched summer festivals to gala New Year’s celebrations and special events worldwide. In 1974 Mike Love’s concept album Endless Summer ignited a second generation of Beach Boys fans and stirred a tempest that rocked the music world. \nGrammy-winning songwriter Bruce Johnston\, joined The Beach Boys in 1965\, replacing Glenn Campbell\, who filled-in for Brian Wilson\, on vocals/bass\, when he retired from touring. Highly regarded as a singer-songwriter\, Johnston’s vocal work with such legendary artists as Elton John and Pink Floyd firmly established him among rock’s elite artists. \nIn addition to founding Beach Boy Mike Love (lead vocals) and Beach Boy-vet Bruce Johnston (vocals/keyboards)—Jeffrey Foskett (guitar/vocals)\, Brian Eichenburger (bass/vocals)\, Tim Bonhomme (keyboards/vocals)\, John Cowsill of The Cowsills (percussion /vocals) and Scott Totten (guitar/vocals) round out the band. \n*This tour will not feature Brian Wilson\, Al Jardine or David Marks*

SUMMARY:John Prine
DESCRIPTION:Two time Grammy-winner\, singer-songwriter\, John Prine\, is among the English language’s premier phrase-turners. Forty-five years into a remarkable career that has drawn effusive praise from Bob Dylan\, Kris Kristofferson\, Bonnie Raitt\, Roger Waters\, Tom Petty\, Bruce Springsteen\, and others who would know\, Prine is a smiling\, shuffling force for good. He is a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member whose classic debut album\, simply titled John Prine\, is recognized as part of the Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall of Fame.\nPrine’s songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash\, Tom T. Hall\, the Everly Brothers\, Carly Simon\, Bette Midler\, Norah Jones\, George Strait\, Miranda Lambert\, and many others. But his genius isn’t found in his resume\, it’s found in the brilliance of lyrics from his large catalog of songs.\nThere’s a hole in Daddy’s arm where all the money goes. – Sam Stone\nIf dreams were lightning and thunder was desire this old house would have burned down a long time ago. – Angel from Montgomery\nBroken hearts and dirty windows make life difficult to see\, That’s why last night and this morning always look the same to me. – Souvenirs\nPrine classic albums include\, Diamonds in the Rough (1972) Bruised Orange (1978) Storm Windows (1986) The Missing Years (1991) In Spite of Ourselves (1999) and Fair & Square (2005). He has collaborated with musical heroes from Bruce Springsteen to Mac Wiseman\, and has been name-checked in songs by Country Music Hall of Famer\, Vince Gill\, and contemporary country songbird Kacey Musgraves.\nJohn’s music has stayed as relevant as ever. A song called ‘Paradise’ written by John\, for his father\, and was a track on his 1971 debut album\, has recently reappeared in the headlines. The song is about the devastating impact of coal strip mining\, with references to Peabody Coal Company\, who\, before declaring bankruptcy in 2016 \, had fought to keep the lyrics to ‘Paradise’ from a lawsuit.\nPrine is an Americana Music Honors & Awards winner for lifetime achievement in songwriting and was recently awarded the prestigious PEN Lyrics Award. He continues to record and perform at sold out shows all over the US\, Canada\, and Europe. Following the 2015 death of his dear friend and business partner Al Bunetta\, John Prine is now President and sole owner of Oh Boy Records. Prine lives in Nashville\, Tennessee with his wife\, Fiona\, and enjoys spending time with their three sons\, a daughter-in-law\, and his namesake grandson.

SUMMARY:The Divine Comedy
DESCRIPTION:The Divine Comedy\n\n26 Feb 2017\nSupport: Lisa O’Neill\n€33.50\, €39.05\, €44.05\nFor one night only\nSince The Divine Comedy’s inception in 1989\, Neil Hannon has time and again proved to be one of the UK’s best and most original songwriters. The upcoming album ‘Foreverland’ exemplifies this\, with references to everything from Catherine The Great to the French Foreign Legion. Neil says of the new record\, ‘it’s about meeting your soul mate and living happily ever after… and then what comes after happily ever after. Get ready for the most historically inaccurate hit of the summer’. \nWhile not releasing a record since 2010’s ‘Bang Goes The Knighthood’\, Neil Hannon has certainly kept himself busy. He co-wrote a second album for acclaimed cricket-themed project\, The Duckworth Lewis Method\, composed a choral work for the Royal Festival Hall’s newly renovated organ entitled ‘To Our Fathers In Distress’\, and oversaw the transfer of his musical\, Swallows And Amazons\, to the West End stage.

Songs include “Ace of Spades”\, “Bomber”\, “Overkill”\, “Iron Fist”\, “The Hammer”\, “The Chase is better than the Catch” and\, of course\, the bombastic “Motörhead” – the last of Lemmy’s songs for Hawkwind and the one that gave his new band its name. \nMotörheadache also features a range of other material written by Motörhead from 1983 through to 2015.
