SUMMARY:We’ve Only Just Begun Bord Gáis Energy Theatre
DESCRIPTION:20\,000 tickets sold in Ireland plus successful tours of the UK\, Holland and Belgium. Ireland’s most successful touring tribute show returns home for a short Irish tour in October \nThe show’s creator and promoter Pat Egan says: “The success of the show is down to the outstanding high quality of the production\, brilliant band and singers but ever more so the astonishing voice of Toni Lee recreating to perfection the smoky tones of Karen Carpenter. No other Carpenters show comes near”. \nThe show’s Musical Director and arranger is Eugene McCarthy\, a highly experienced musician of over 30 years who has worked with top Irish and international acts.\nToni Lee is unique\, utterly unique in that she recreates the voice of Karen Carpenter like no one else alive. Her touring show “We’ve Only Just Begun” has been on the road now for over 5 years and it’s simply the best Celebration of the Carpenters music to be heard anywhere in the world. The show features every Carpenter hit with an 8 piece big band and audiovisuals of the Carpenters career highlights. It’s an evening of pure nostalgia where Toni Lee truly becomes Karen Carpenter. \nToni grew up in a music business family. Her dad was a professional musician and her mum worked as an agent. So Toni has been surrounded by bands and singers from an early age. When other kids were playing street games\, Toni was packing her Dad’s car with his instruments and discovering what life on the road was all about! \nShe first came to national attention when she appeared as Karen Carpenter on ITV’S “Stars in their Eyes” which led to the creation of her touring show “We’ve Only Just Begun”\, which this year will return to tour Ireland\, the UK and Holland and will also visit both Australia & America for the first time. With 25 years’ singing experience\, Toni Lee is the ultimate professional performer whose attention to detail and pride in her work is second to none.

SUMMARY:Joanna Lumley It's All About Me Bord Gáis Energy Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The legendary Joanna Lumley comes to Bord Gáis Energy Theatre as part of her first ever live tour\, IT’S ALL ABOUT ME. \nJoanna will take audiences through her hilarious and interesting adventures from her incredible career spanning more than four decades\, recounting some never heard before stories. She will also be joined on stage by friend and producer Clive Tulloh\, who will put to Joanna questions from the audience that they’ve always wanted to ask\, making the show a unique and hilarious night to remember. \nOn announcing It’s All About Me\, Joanna said: “The thought of this tour next year\, travelling across the British Isles and Ireland\, has completely taken over my waking hours. It’s utterly thrilling to start planning the stories I can tell\, and the rapture (and gratitude\, to be fair) with which I shall greet the audiences. Nothing like this has come my way before\, and I may have to be dragged off with a hook at the end of each show. Oh people! This is especially for you from me\, with masses of love. I think it will be fabulous.” \nJoanna Lumley icon\, activist\, comedy actress and all-round top girl is barely off our TV screens and appears to have been a permanent fixture in our sitting rooms since she burst onto our screens as Purdey in the New Avengers in 1976. On this tour she will take us through the random journey that started in London in the swinging 60’s. Beginning as Jean Muir’s house model and muse\, progressing to becoming a full-blown photographic model\, featuring in knitting patterns\, mini-skirts\, toothpaste commercials and the occasional front cover. \nFrom there Joanna will share her stories of her acting career that includes Coronation Street\, On the Buses\, Dracula and as a brainwashed Bond Girl in Blofeld’s lair in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Joanna’s breakthrough role was as Purdey\, a part for which over 800 girls auditioned. Purdey propelled her to instant fame and created one of the “must-have” hairstyles of the 1970s – the Purdey bob. She became a pin-up figure for a generation who grew up watching her as the high-kicking action girl. \nAlongside iconic hairstyles Joanna started to develop a nice sideline as adventurer and activist; popping up all over the globe she was often seen gasping at the Northern Lights\, turning her bra into espadrilles and finding the source of the Nile. \nThen as Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous she became a degenerate role-model for a generation. Winning two BAFTAs\, Joanna emerged as one of the best comedy actresses of her generation. For 25 years the adventures of Patsy and Edina have sporadically lurched across our screens culminating in AbFab The Movie in 2016. \nThis intimate night with Joanna tells some of these tales and more as we gallop through almost 50 years in this business we call show.

DESCRIPTION:Who is El Hablador? It is . No\, but who is the one they call El Hablador? I just said\, it’s Ross Noble. You know? Long hair\, does stand up where he dances about the stage\, spinning out all the nonsense in his head into a hilarious show. \nDon’t miss the one they call El Hablador* live at The Olympia Theatre on Saturday 29th September. \nBut what is the legend of El Hablador? I don’t think it’s a thing. It is clearly Ross coming up with a name for his show\, so he can make out like he is some sort of mysterious shadowy figure. Ok I get it. \nAt some point\, he may wander into a shadowy part of the stage and look a bit shadowy. \n*Ross is the only one that calls himself El Hablador.

SUMMARY:Frank Pig Says Hello Gaiety Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Twenty-five years on\, Pat McCabe’s FRANK PIG SAYS HELLO returns this October to twenty theatres across Ireland\, in a new touring production that brilliantly captures the legendary original.\n \nStarting at the Gaiety Theatre Dublin\, moving to a community venue in McCabe’s hometown of Clones and then traversing the length and breadth of the country\, the tour will bring one of the great classics of modern Irish theatre to a new generation of audiences.\n \nFRANK PIG SAYS HELLO tells the desperately funny and tragic story of the life of Francie Brady growing up in a small Irish town in the 1960s and his descent towards a brutal act that shocks his community. Described as “one of the saddest and funniest tales I have seen” The Irish Times; “a masterpiece” The Evening Herald and “an extraordinary piece of theatre” The Sunday Independent\, the original production coincided with McCabe’s Booker-winning novel of the same story entitled “The Butcher Boy”. The play distils Francie’s infamous narrative into a riveting evening of pure\, outstanding theatre.\n \nFeaturing a mesmerising performance by two actors\, Darragh Byrne and John Ruddy\, Frank Pig is regarded as the most vivid\, hilarious and heartbreaking evocation ever seen on a stage of an Irish childhood gone wrong. From the opening live trumpet notes over an image of a happy boy acting the piglet\, to the breathtaking depiction of a dreadful murder\, this is theatre at its most entertaining and gripping best. \n \nPat McCabe and Joe O’Byrne collaborated on the original Frank Pig Says Hello production for the 1992 Dublin Theatre Festival where it won Best Production\, before embarking on a world tour that began in Clones\, Co. Monaghan and concluded in New York. Since then the two have produced together Loco County Lonesome\, The Dead School\, and The Revenant. Set design is by leading Irish artist Robert Ballagh. The show was recently recreated for the 2017 Dublin Theatre Festival winning high praise for exceptional young actor Darragh Byrne and the multi-talented actor\, trumpet player and cartoonist John Ruddy\, known for his Youtube video animations which have had millions of hits worldwide.\n

SUMMARY:Tory Lanez Memories Don't Die Tour Olympia Theatre
DESCRIPTION:In support of his recently released sophomore album Memories Don’t Die\, Tory’s tour hits UK & Irish shores September 18th beginning in The Olympia Theatre! \nA near reverential dedication to truth is the foundation Tory Lanez’ artistic identity. Unabashedly introspective and keenly observant of the outside world in equal measure\, the rapper born Daystar Peterson in Toronto\, Canada\, spent his early adolescence honing the sure-footed\, narrative-led lyrics that have become synonymous with his singular style of rap. Lanez sophomore studio album\, Memories Don’t Die\, comes as a follow up to his 2016 debut\, I Told You\, which was met with critical success\, and featured the number one\, Double Platinum singles\, “Say It” and “LUV.” \nOne part personal confessional and one part victory lap\, the album sees Lanez place his feet firmly between the now and the then\, walking the blurred line between what has transpired and what is to come with all of the surety and dominion of a modern day Chronos. “This album is nostalgic because a lot of the stuff I’m rapping and singing about is from my past\,” said Lanez. “These memories are very vivid\, very real and very true. They’re memorable to me and I know if they’re real to me they’re real to other people too.” \nThe sprawling musical opus\, which highlights moments in the 25-year-old’s history spanning from early childhood through 2017\, is held together by the rapper’s innate talent for uniting genres into new\, hybrid soundscapes. With seemingly little effort\, Lanez always experiments as he creates\, fusing together a mish-mash of influences into a nuanced\, self-mythologized genre he has dubbed “swavey.” And while Lanez scored a Grammy nomination and number one single with the tropically-infused\, hip-swaying\, familiar rhythm of “Luv”—produced by Cashmere Cat and Benny Blanco—Memories Don’t Die is defined by a revisitation of more traditional hip-hop and R&B conventions; Lanez embraces the world of knocking 808s and the growl and punch of unembellished instrumentals alongside the polished gloss of his trademark croon. Touting features from 50 Cent—an homage to the part of his adolescence spent in Jamaica\, Queens\, Future\, Wiz Khalifa\, Fabolous\, NAV and more. \nWith practiced finesse\, Lanez matter of factly spins larger-than-life tales of betrayal at the hands of friends and finding solidarity in former foes. Yet even while working within the comfort of his own personal history\, Lanez is never monotonous. Instead he is positively effusive\, slinking between moods and pivotal moments as if trying to reclaim and preserve the memories seared into his soul. There are moments when he thumps his chest\, claiming the spoils of a hard-won victory\, and proudly embracing his self-perceived status of underdog and voluntary outcast. At other times he is unapologetically vulnerable\, falling down the rabbit hole of reflection with an unguarded transparency that resonates with the emotion of a distant moment. \nLanez explores his past\, recalling tender memories of the death of his mother—a woman who he remembers as “True Happiness”—and his upbringing zig-zagging across the U.S. and Canada\, dodging the cycles of violence that his saw his family subjected along the way. He also looks forward\, promising the world to his newborn child and his mother. \nIn short\, memories truly have not died for the Grammy award nominee—he is able to recall his own life story with remarkable clarity\, and keenly translate its impact on his present with pragmatism\, verity and true emotion. When Lanez details the loss of his mother he does so with the sheen of salt from unshed tears. When he reflects on the nature of love (and his own shortcomings)\, there is a sense of genuine regret and desire. His honesty is unfailing and unrelenting\, but also feels universal. We are seeing Tory Lanez for what he is—a young man growing\, progressing and learning in an ever-changing world that can be capricious and cruel\, but also wildly beautiful and filled with warmth.

Janey hasn’t left her house in 25 years. No-one has set foot inside her house in 20 years which up till now has been just the way she likes it. However what happens when she wakes one morning and finds herself in the middle of a snow storm with no power\, no heat\, no phone\, no food? \nAs her situation escalates\, Janey is forced to question her way of life and deals with her predicament through her wild imagination. She is prone to fantastical flights of fantasy that reveal much of her inner self and the wider world that has caused her to become trapped. \n“Thrifty I am but it’s time for a two bar treat. Click and wait. Wait for that burnt dust smell that precedes the orange glow heat. No comfort here. Try to throw some light on the subject. Click\, click. Light stays off\, light stays off. Not to worry. I’ve had darker days than this. Go to the window. Haven’t looked outside in years. Today I must.” \nPerformed by Cora Fenton (‘Fred & Alice’)\n \nRunning Time: 70 minutes without interval. \nTICKETS:\nLunchtime Tickets: €12.50 (includes Soup & Brown Bread\, or Sandwich).\nLunch can only be guaranteed if booked before 12 noon on the day of the show.\n*Lunch from 12.15pm. SUMMARY:Copper Face Jacks The Musical Olympia Theatre
DESCRIPTION:New York had Studio 54\, Paris has The Moulin Rouge and Manchester had The Hacienda but ALL of Ireland has Copper Face Jacks and now this Club of Clubs is getting its very own all-singing\, all-dancing musical as the producers of ANGLO: The Musical are proud to present the world premiere of Paul Howard’s latest comedy masterpiece\, Copper Face Jacks: The Musical. \nOpening in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on Thursday 5th Of July\, Copper Face Jacks: The Musical is a celebration of a club that started out life as something of a Culchie Embassy in Dublin but has since been embraced by its home city\, as regardless of your county colours you’ll always find a welcome (and a slow-set plus a nurse…and if you’re lucky both together) in the club that has become synonymous with having a good time for three generations of Irish night clubbers. \nCopper Face Jacks: The Musical is written by Ross O’Carroll Kelly creator Paul Howard and is a love story set on the eve of a Dublin Kerry All Ireland Final\, when a sweet Kerry girl\, who’s moved to the big smoke for her dream job in The VHI\, ends up falling head over her flat-shoes with a true blue Dublin team member. \nCan love conquer all as these two young sweethearts face massive cultural and linguistic hurdles on their road to happiness/Croker? Only time\, some great tunes and a bunch of cloakroom tickets will tell as Paul Howard uses his mighty comedy pen to see Copper Face Jacks: The Musical celebrate the nightclub that has become so much more than just a club and instead is home to millions of love stories and countless lost mobiles. \nSpeaking about the show Paul said\, “Once you hear the name Copper Face Jacks: The Musical it’s impossible not to want to make it happen. We’ve been talking about it for a few years now so it’s brilliant to think in just a few months it will be up and running. I hope we can do this very special venue justice…whilst I also secretly dream of a day when this work is on the Leaving Certificate”. \nPreviews from Thursday 5th July to Sunday 8th July 2018\nOpening Night Tuesday 10th July 2018\nRunning until Sunday 12th August 2018 (no shows Mondays)
