The Chocolate Garden of Ireland has its origins in waffle-making. The business began in 2001 in Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow and they sold their waffles under the Wicklow Fine Foods brand.  Soon after, it diversified into chocolate spreads and handmade chocolates for the speciality food market.

The Chocolate Garden of Ireland brand was ‘born’ in 2005 as, by then, they were making more chocolate products than biscuits. The brand reflects their location in Co. Wicklow, the “Garden County” of Ireland.  In 2009, they moved from their premises in Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow to their new premises at Rath, Tullow, County Carlow (however, they’re still in Co. Wicklow on the map!).

The chocolatiers are constantly working to create even more variety and spectacular taste sensations for you.

Visitor Experience

High on the list of things to do in Carlow, visitors can enjoy an award winning coffee or some of the fabulous tasting ice cream at their leisure while kids of all ages can enjoy the trim trail, slides, sandpit and wendy house in the play area.

Other than workshops, mould making sessions are available daily on a walk-in basis up to 4.30pm start. From €10 pp. Details of the workshop are outlined below:

Single Golden Ticket to Participate in a Chocolate Workshop – €12.50

Duration 1 hour 40 mins
Learn all about chocolate making, cocoa growing, how Easter eggs and other chocolate products are made and have a go at making and decorating your own chocolate product. Take home the mould along with your fab product. Tastings of different grades of premium chocolate provided. We also show a short video about how we make our ice cream here at the Chocolate Garden. A Taste of Chocolate Making Golden Ticket voucher – €250 for two

3 hours duration
Enjoy learning the background of cocoa and chocolate making, make your very own moulded product with mould to take home; relish samples of various grades of chocolates and flavours, and get hands-on, making fillings and chocolates for yourself to take home. This workshop is suitable for those with a passion for chocolate and wanting a more in-depth knowledge and experience of chocolate making.

Chocolate Making Classes – €120

3½ Hours hands-on work and training

This introduction to chocolate making course is suitable for those with a keen interest in cooking or who are planning to work with quality chocolate and make their own products. Participants will learn about tempering chocolate, making ganaches filling, piping chocolates, making moulded chocolates, rolled chocolates and hollow figures. Participants will receive advice on presenting and storing chocolates and on avoiding common problems with chocolate-making.
