Stradbally Steam Museum

stradbally steam museumStradbally Steam Museum pays homage to steam engines and machines of a past era. Hugely popular as items of unique interest, Strabally Steam Museum has several working examples of typical steam engines, some dating from the early 1900s.

Before the large scale production of industrial machinery, steam powered engines were used in many areas of construction and industry and Stradbally Steam Museum gives insight into how early steam engines were used across a diverse range of applications, including road works and stone crushing.

Of keen interest to history buffs, are stories of early steam engines used by some well known names like the Guinness brewery. The Steam Preservation Society are also involved in the restoration and maintenance of a narrow guage railyway, located near the main steam museum. These narrow guage railways served as smaller linkage routes throughout Ireland, linking like an artery network to the mainline systems.

You can experience a jaunt on the narrow guage railway on any bank holiday Sunday or Monday during a season that runs from May to September. Of particular interest to steam engine buffs, will be the Steam Rally that is held every August bank holiday weekend on the grounds of Stradbally Hall.
