What’s different about Tipperary Mountain Trekking Centre?

You can learn to ride at any good equestrian centre. At Tipperary Mountain Trekking Centre, the dedicated staff are committed to using natural horsemanship techniques in the training of their horses and riders.

“We believe in ethical and sustainable tourism. Trekking outdoors, your group can enjoy beautiful scenic views along laneways and across pastures frequented by abundant wildlife. One and two hour treks are completely off road, through pristine mountain pastures, where you’ll see the historic sites, beautiful views and wonderful bio-diversity”.

All treks are accompanied by an experienced leader.

When you arrive, the team at the centre will assess your riding ability in the outdoor training sand arena. Assessments include basic instruction in stopping, starting and turning. For more experienced riders, assessments include evaluations of safety in trotting (posting), cantering and jumping.

Riding hats are compulsory but if you don’t have your own, the centre will supply them for your trek, along with suitable boots. They can also provide livery facilities for those who want to bring their own horse with them.

“Absolutely fabulous! Went on a 2 hour trek a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and we both loved it, the views were incredible and Claire was an amazing guide. Our horses were so sweet and lovely to ride, we will definitely be going back over the summer!”

aire approved

Tipperary Mountain Trekking Centre is approved by the Association of Irish Riding Establishments (AIRE) since 2000. The centre caters for all levels and they do not mix groups on the treks. Your trek will be tailored to the ability and confidence of the least experienced member in your party. Similarly, the pace of treks can vary from a gentle walk through the countryside for novice riders, to fast rides with exhilarating gallops and natural jumps for experienced riders.

Pony Camps

It’s often said that a love of horses is not a hobby, it’s a life long interest and love of all things equestrian. Perhaps you have the next Olympian in your family? It all starts with their first visit to the equestrian centre. A great way for children to learn and experience the best equestrian practices is by attending a pony camp. Pony Camps at Tipperary Mountain Trekking Centre are great fun with engaging and interactive activities. Children learn by doing which is a hugely rewarding experience, building confidence and delivering a sense of achievement.

Tipperary Pony Camps

Children spend a minimum of two hours each day in the saddle. They learn about riding basics and also about their ponies, including how to groom, feed, lead, tack up and care for them. They also learn and participate in stable management, including mucking out and sweeping the yard.

Pony Camps are very popular and places cost as little as €25 for an afternoon or €180 for the full five days. Residential places are also available. Day rates and family discounts also available on request.
