Aquasplash Tipperary highly recommended!
Aqua Splash is located on the banks of Lough Derg in the quiet village of Dromineer. Its a floating obstacle course on water, complete with floating trampoline and giant slide. Dromineer is on the Tipperary side of Lough Derg and less than 30 minutes drive from Nenagh.
Ive been all around the country reviewing day out experiences and honestly, this is one of the best days out Ive had in a long time.
Swim shorts, t-shirt and a life jacket and off you go. I was out there for 1.5hrs jumping in and out, climbing, sliding, swimming and having wrestling contests!. I could have stayed out there all day!
It was absolutely great craic. As an adult, seriously, when was the last time you jumped in a lake?
While were on the topic – our group spent a few hours, over a couple of days in and out of the lake. Everyone commented that their skin felt better – silky smooth, nails were gleaming and their hair felt great! If you could bottle that stuff just saying!
With the recent warm and clammy weather weve had, it was so refreshing and it was without the stinging eyes of sea water!. After you dunk in the first time, you just cant get enough. Coupled with that, youve got the added fun of trying to stay upright on many of the floating obstacles. (theyre floating and theyre obviously secured, youre not going to float away into the lake!)
The flat floating stretches connecting obstacles are surprisingly sturdy, theres a couple of wobbles as you climb the smaller obstacles but then to slide down into lake water was a real highlight. The more adventurous of us, climbed the smaller obstacles and then jumped a good 10 feet into the lake.
We had kids with us aged 5 to 13 years and they just couldnt get enough. Everyone had life jackets / buoyancy aids on and we were all together and safe at all times. This was outdoor fun like it should be, the whole family together and it was accompanied by shrieks, giggles, snorts and deep belly laughs!
There are 2 life guards situated on the floating course at all times. They are in touch with base via walkie talkies. You get dropped out to the floating obstacle course and picked up by dingy. Your time out there is done in one hour long stretches and if you do what you’re supposed to do out there, you’ll be happily exhausted after 1 hour!! You can jump into the water but normal common sense rules apply. You dont go heard first off the high obstacles!
Bring a change of clothes obviously, there are public toilets / changing rooms across the road from the lake side (about 30 seconds walk) or you can do like the old days – wrap a towel around you and get changed by the water edge when you come back in. You can leave bags with the guys at the cabin at lakeside.
The fact that you get out to and from the floating obstacle course by a fast rib dingy was just another highlight for the kids. Youre out there in less than 30 seconds but it was a new experience for our gang and great fun. Cant recommend Aqua Splash enough just go do it!!!
Great location out there on the lake and really stunning scenery all around. Steven and Claire at Aqua Splash also offer other water activities including:-
-
- Kayaking
- SUP (Stand up paddle boards)
- Peddle boats
- Banana boat!
at the same location. We took a peddle boat out afterwards just to wind down and it was again, really stunning out there and a lovely way to spend time with the family out on the water.
but honestly we would have paid double for the experience it was that good.
- Waterpark for age 16+ is 15 per hour. 6-15yrs is 10 per hour
- Peddle Boats 20 per hour (takes 5)
- Kayaks single 15 per hour
It was a unique and different type of day out and there were certainly splashes the verdict from our group was “highly recommended”.
Opening Hours: Aquasplash is open 7 days a week from 11am 7pm. Last group out at 6pm
Theres parking for about 40 cards in a car park right beside the water edge and theres public toilets and changing facilities just across the road from Aqua Splash (30 second walk.) The water edge has some benches and you can bring a picnic and enjoy. Theres a small playground too just a little way back from the lakeside along with a cafe.
We saw lots of families in Dromineer just chilling out on the grass and kids splashing and swimming in the water.
